| Update on progress for launch | |
Dave Wave ![]() 16th Sep 2009 22:39:28 | The software that runs on the host is finished.
Ran a session last night for 3 hours with no errors. Thanks Chris for doing the ATC. Someone joined with a gamespyid that was something like floooooooooooooooooo. Kicking him was a bit of a problem as you have to enter the kick command with the gamespy correctly. (I couldn't count how many o's there were in his name! So I've made it a bit easier, you now just need to kick part of his name so either !kick flo or even !kick oooooo would do the job. If more than one player matches the pattern then the server will just return a message so you don't kick someone by accident. The ability to file a flightplan is now working. The server validates your airport codes etc and if all is ok the data is stored on the database. Short term I've added the command !ATC for people who take over a tower. The decriptoin you type is then added to the information message that is posted in chat every 60 seconds. Correct useage would be like !ATC EGHH Bournemouth Tower 125.60 To remove the message type !ATCSTOP or just leave the game. Final part for launch is to alter the ATC flight strip client software. Should be done by next week so launch proper could well be 1st October. Software on time, who'd have thought it! |
Dave Wave ![]() 19th Sep 2009 16:54:23 | Most of the work is now complete on the flight plan software. It certainly works ok, just need to change the format of some of the screens.
Also changed the names of some of the chat commands. Since they now all start with a unique letter you can shorten all the commands to just one letter. E.g. you can now use !C as well as !Callsign. The final thing I want to do before launch is establish if a registered member on this site is in a fsx game. I think I will use a combination of gamespyid and ipaddress. Since we will probably use direct connect anybody could pretend to use someone elses id in the game. The check on ip address to this web site matches that of the player in the game establishes that the user is who they say they are. This might be a pane for people without a permanent ip address but a quick visit and logon on this site will update the records. In reality this is only required if users require the ability to kick people granted automatically from the rights given to them from this site so I don't see as being too much of an issue. However, by establishing a pilots credentials means atc get to see the name of the user instead of just his gamespyid. In the future I'm thinking of adding pilot/ATC rankings to users. Again if ATC can see this info they can match their instructions to the pilots ability. Longer term we can track peoples flight hours, assign scores to competions etc via this user recognition. In fact if you've got any ideas let me know. The 24 hour FSX server itself will be up and running very soon so will be available for all users for testing/playing and ATC can try out the flight plan software. Launch is looking good for 1st October. I'll be posting details of any planned test sessions on the events page. See you soon. |
