First, FSOpen is corrupting players' GameSpy IDs. Sometimes, and it appears to be random, FSOpen will assign random characters for someone's name. The only way to fix this appears to be to leave and join again. Secondly, FSOpen is kicking people for simply pushing caps lock. This appears to be random as well, I've even tried turning off the shift+caps lock kick feature off. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
Andy Mooring   7th May 2011 09:51:46 | Alex firstly FSopen has no way of corrupting gamespy IDs unless there is a fault within either the full server software or the server lite software. If there was, its news to us. If its not within FSopen then the issue lies with gamespy. Also FSopen cannot produce random characters as they can only be created by the USER themselves.
Secondly the capslock is the default setting for 'push to talk' when using FSX comms. As like other FS communities we use Teamspeak and have done for a few years. If you notice when entering the session the sound icon has been turned off. The only way people get kicked is if they are misbehaving, entering the server with a banned aircraft, flying in an area under ATC control and NOT responding on chat window and causing problems for other people while under tuition (either ATC or flying). As Andy says, these don't sound like FSopen faults. Do you know of any other members that has been affected by the same issues, and are you joining the session through Gamespy or by direct connection to the server? M |

Alex, make sure you are running the latest version. Always run from the fsopen site, don't try and install on your machine. If you are still getting corruption of names I'm guessing that your pc is under powered or your internet connection is poor or not fast enough. There was a problem with shift+caps but version 7 fixes this. If the feature is turned off then there is no way users will be kicked for speaking, if they are you get a message confirming in chat. |
| Alex Hawkins 7th May 2011 14:48:57 | I'm certain PC power isn't the issue. This machine used to be my primary FSX computer and would run it on high settings with no problem. I'm already running v7 of FSOpen lite currently, but if worse comes to worse, I'll try a reinstall of FSX.
My internet speed is 10 mbps down and 2 mbps up, surely this is enough? The caps-lock issue seems to have resolved itself with a couple of restarts. |

I have the raw data behind this and some other similar users with corrupt gamespys. Do you know what the gamespy of this user was? I'll look at this first thing tomorrow for you. If I get time I'll also add some code to log why I'm kicking someone for kicking. Can you confirm you saw a message on the server that you were kicked for talking on all frequencies? |

I did not have the option for shift-caps lock kicking selected when it kicked me, and it only said in the chat box that I had been kicked for spawning. |

Version 8 is now on the interweb, no more corrupted gamespyids. I suspect that this will also fix the kicking issue but let me know if it doesn't. |
