| My Trip to Heathrow | |
John Godfrey ![]() 7th May 2011 11:08:29 | Ok so I have traveled today from EGPH (05:55z) -> EGLL (07:20z)
Aircraft: BMI Airbus 319 Departure RWY 06 seemed like a DCS4C Departure CRZ FL390 (This surprised me and boy was there A LOT of other traffic en-route) Descent....too cloudy to tell STAR LOL NO HOLD (that I could tell, was really cloudy) Landed RWY 09L ( after vacating RWY looked back at aircraft on approach and seemed like less than 3min intervals :-s Thought I would share, now I am stuck in T5 for the next 9 hours waiting for a BA flight to arrive with family members. Aircraft is delayed 9 hours! Could not change my ticket last minute. I HATE BA SOMETIMES!!! Not the same company they used to be. Was thinking about doing ATC from the lounge in T5...might freak some people out hearing ATC chatter from some random guy in the arrivals hall. |

John Godfrey was today arrested under anti-terror laws. Authorities mistook his laptop to be linked into Heathrow's ATC Frequency. He remains in custody and no further comment has yet been made. |
John Godfrey ![]() 7th May 2011 11:55:25 | HAHAHA :( ...... NOT FUNNY!!!! |
Mick McG ![]() 7th May 2011 21:51:39 | Hi John, Sounds like you had a good trip.
Re final approach spacing; Heathrow is unusual in that it has dispensation to use reduced separation on final approach. TC are able to sequence aircraft inbound to EGLL to 2.5nm (normal units are no closer than 3nm) in order to maximise runway occupancy. This reduction is subject to certain conditions including weather (+10km vis and cloudbase =>1500ft) and normal aircraft operation. They also have a strict speed control regime to ensure all aircraft in the sequence can be vectored without having to make constant adjustments to the pattern. As you saw, it looks pretty impressive when you see them all lined up on approach. Hope your "rellies" all arrived safely. M |
Felix Stehle ![]() 7th May 2011 22:50:57 | hahahaha....nice one john.
hope our company made the time a lil easier for you. ahhaha but i still hope somebody saw you doing sim ATC on a bench and thought. "Bloody hell, they are paying these guys less and less nowadays" hahaha |
John Godfrey ![]() 9th May 2011 00:40:42 | Hi All,
Well all is well with myself and my relatives. Thanks to everyone who flew and gave me some ATC work during my long 12 hour wait in T5. Had a few strange looks as I called out landing clearences from the arrivals hall in T5 but wasn't hauled away into a small dark room in Heathrows basement lol. Mick thanks for the information regarding approach spacing. Very interesting especially when you can see it being put into practice :) Going to now go sleep for the next 2 days!!! LOL John |
