All about failures - Event

I have asked Joe Clifford to help in planning an event that I hope to run once a month.

BREIF
The event is sure to test both, pilot and ATC’s skills, as everything that can go wrong does!

So how does it work?

A particular type of aircraft will have pre-determined failures during a flight. The aircraft will be shared by two pilots. The Captain will be responsible for flying the aircraft.

The First Officer will be briefed before departure about what pre-planned failures will occur during the flight and how to programme them.

The two man team will set up a whisper facility in teamspeak for in cockpit communications.

The First Officer will set up his aircraft, then the Captain will join the aircraft unaware of the failures that have been programmed into the aircraft.

The Captain will be blissfully unaware until notified by the onboard computers. It will then be (as in normal procedure) over to the Captain to land his plane safely and to communicate with ATC(who will not know the nature of the emergency until advised by the captain).

During the failures the First Officer will be given instructions that will assist the Captain during each failure.ie if a Hydraulic failure occurs the Co-Pilot will have instructions how to manually deploy the Landing Gear etc. and via the whisper facility communicate to the Captain such assistance as the Captain requires.

Once the aircraft lands Captain & First Officer change roles.

“What type of failures am I going to confront?”

Well if we told you that, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise would it! Each aircraft will have failures that we are compatible to the characteristics of that aircraft.

This event will require a lot of planning and time in preperation and therefore will only be run on a pre-booked basis. Please indicate your interest in such an event by leaving your name and comments in this Post.

Sounds like a good challenge. I`d be up for it. I would like to use the Wilco PIC 737 as it could be more realistic. Does anyone have any experience of sharing cockpits with this aircraft?

Hello,

To make whole experience more realistic for both the Captain and the First Officer, it would be better if we kept to the default aircraft, so that we can set the probelms and you can follow check lists if you wish to. We have some aircraft in mind. We are doing research into what the pilots can do to their aircraft to compensate with the problem. ie putting the gear down manually ect.

Thankyou
