Pete Gummerson 6th Dec 2011 21:35:50 | So which one is better? =o |
Dave Wave ![]() 8th Dec 2011 09:07:26 | I've looked at both Pete, they're very different animals.
X-Plane. I've played with the demo. It has sloping runways which I love, plus cloud shadows. The weather engine is really good too, it really gives the impression of flying into cloud that fsx doesn't. Frame rates are pretty good providing you don't turn the settings up. However there is too much that is bad. AI traffic make a real hit on performance, the default planes are limited/terrible especially if you want a virtual cockpit. The menu system is best described as challenging! When you land or even taxi turning a corner the tyres squeal like you're in a car chase. Overall just too many downsides to x-plane compared to fsx. I enjoyed it for a bit especially with the clouds but too many frustrating issues for me. As for Aerofly I don't know. The scenery looks stunning but limited to just Switzerland. Their website says they have a realistic flight model but have limited the controls so I read that as being a simple vfr simulator without needing to know about avionics etc. It might appeal to pilots who like vfr flying and enjoy good scenery. Hard to say without using it. |

On the Officer of the Watch course i'm on at the moment we got to have a go in one of the several ship simulators the college has, which was pretty cool as we got to go into Sydney Harbour but they also showed us a 360 degree simulator which would probably make your eyes water with jealousy if you got a chance to see it. =P I wish i had taken some pics for you but maybe next time =D |
Dave Wave ![]() 8th Dec 2011 13:29:18 | Do you get to play in these Pete?
|
Ian Whiteside ![]() 8th Dec 2011 14:23:20 | Dave was that the 'X Plane 10' demo or the 9 ? |
Dave Wave ![]() 8th Dec 2011 14:27:23 | It was the new demo plus the 2nd patch.
|
Pete Gummerson 8th Dec 2011 16:22:01 | Nooo, I'm at South Tyneside College and they don't use them they use the simulators.
Those boast are down at Warsash and you only go in them when you take your masters qualification (needed to become a ships captain) which you need like 9 years or sea experience. So I have a while yet I'll be about 31 when I can get to take that exam so you can do the maths and fugue out how old I am. =P |
