| WHICH! CPU, GRAPHICS Card etc to buy - Help for New Buyers and Upgraders | |
Ian Whiteside   9th Mar 2012 22:40:28 | With Laurence recently getting his new PC and Mangesh looking to upgrade his to handle PMDG planes etc. perhaps a thread here with a kind of performance comparison check would help.
Some people swear by AMD cpu's and AMD graphics cards while others are pleased with their nVidia graphics and Intel cpu's. Confusing for the newcomer, or not so computer savvy pilot... Therefore, can we simplify the process ? Well, our own pilot's in FSOpen can play a part.... all that's needed is to use a common denominator 'PC test program' to assess each PC and give a score result that can then be compared with others and the results taken into consideration by the new PC buyer/upgrader. There is a little downloadable (free) program available which can do that quickly and easily. http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm If you use this, then the results can be posted here and may save a lot of heartache for new buyers and upgraders... also on this site you can see comparison charts for various PC components.... I shall start in the next post with my results from the test and a note of the equipment that I am using... |
