Files for the flight are now available, pilots attending the VFR Club this Sunday may find the contents of this file useful: (Just right hand click the file and download) tinyurl.com/fspilots-vfr-club Also in the initial folder is "ukvrpx.bgl", if you haven't already place it in your addon scenery to display Visual Reference Points [Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XAddon Sceneryscenery] ATCA Is a piece of software that controllers use for weather information, it's also handy as a VFR pilot as you can access the Regional Pressure Settings (RPS) easily. The final little aid used by VFR Pilots is Plan-G, this software is 'the business': All of the details can be found on there site, but I, and all the ATC and Pilot Mentors, certainly recommend it: http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1438.0 All of these details are optional but have been included to aid, and enhance your flight. No matter what your flight experience, everybody is welcome! Note: If you already have these programs, just download the files, load them up and read no further- See you tomorrow.
Checklist [ ] UK VRP Addon "ukvrpx.bgl" added to my addon scenery folder [ ] Plan-G installed, I've ran it and clicked "Build FSX Datatbase" Already [ ] Scottish Day Trip Folder Downloaded from Google [ ] If I want a weather bug, and regional pressure details, I have ran the ATCA Software from Google too Pre-Departure Checklist [ ] Run FSX, Load in to session, Load "Scottish Day Trip.PLN" into FSX Flight Planner [ ] Once loaded in, clear the parking stand you have loaded in at EGEC [ ] Run Plan-G, Load "Scottish Day Trip.PLG" You now have the route in FSX, and data and pop-ups will appear on your computer to let you know where you are, of course before departure you can cheack the weather and the forecast (TAFs will be posted on this forum in the morning, and help available to decode them) Apologies for the length, but just trying to make things clear for even the newest of pilots! Any problems, Give me a shout!! :) |
Neil Murray 14th Apr 2012 13:53:20 | Hi Christian,
I managed to download ukvrpx.gbl and the individual files under VRF Scottish Day Trip.zip but I found it more involved than a simple right-click. I am mentioning this incase others have problems. Windows 7/explorer. Perhaps its only me - anyway thanks for you effort in putting this event together. |
Christian Smith ![]() 14th Apr 2012 14:23:25 | Hi Neil,
Huge thanks for feeding back! Someone also just mentioned it on teamspeak and I will be using dropbox in future if needed. Hope you've managed to get sorted. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow Christian |
Christian Smith ![]() 15th Apr 2012 12:01:02 | WEATHER FORECAST
For today’s flight the weather is looking good, there is a chance of catching some slow cloud upon the route, in which case we may opt to go around these areas, the wind is moderate with winds around 11kts for both our departure and arrival aerodromes. Christian Smith ![]() 15th Apr 2012 16:02:05 | Hope you enjoyed it!
As I said a quick note regarding Airmanship- not a dig or complaint- just an observation :) Multi-Aircraft on Frequency AIRMANSHIP Respect for other pilots is essential to the smooth transmission of communications between pilots and controllers. If you are too close to an aircraft on final approach then just go around, if you are too close at any other point, then orbit, or make changes to your air speed. It is a matter of fact that at times you will become to close to another aircraft, and will cut off pilots in transmission accidentally, so there are rules for airmanship in this situation. If you are passed an instruction, and another aircraft talks before you feedback, the controller will await your response before saying anything else. Pilots should therefore be aware to feedback as quickly as possible, and never interrupt another pilot until he has readback an instruction. Finally, if a controller issues two instructions to two aircraft at once with a “break break”, the first message should be readback first, and then the second afterwards. Look forward to seeing you next week, will probably post the route and details for the flight on Wednesday.... You have the GPS and Plan-G Flight plans already so nothing new will be required!! Cheers, Christian |
Christian Smith ![]() 15th Apr 2012 16:24:16 | Thanks for the feedback Zack, Glad you enjoyed it :) |
Robert Gavin 17th Apr 2012 10:05:19 | I wanted to say that (as a completely new member) I really enjoyed the VFR session and appreciate the huge effort put in by Christian and all others who provide and produce the FSopen service.
I have not had the time over the years to become as involved in depth with FS flying as I would like and always wish to learn more which this sort of thing does. If in any way I was a part of the observation of Christians it will of course be due to my ignorance of procedure(s). If there are any pointers to further reading / reference to airmanship in general I would be grateful to hear of them so I may personally improve to the benefit of everyone's enjoyment. Many thanks again and I certainly hope to be with you all again next weekend. |
