As everyone seems mad on scenery design thought Id give it a go. Put some windfarms into the picture as they are popping up all over the place

Now its in the right place add a few more

I found a freeware scenery that places wind farms and turbines in all the correct locations all over the UK. It looks great as you approach them, but the individual turbines are a mess.

Yours looks far more realistic!!

And for my next creation "Beachy Head Light House"

Easily recognizable feature, at least here I wont be lost!

Laurence, these look excellent! BHL is spot on (low tide that day!) Top work mate.

Are you creating from scratch? If so, what are you using to do it?

Good work Laurence. This is the real lighthouse.

This is the "Chicken Rock" Lighthouse just off the coast of the Isle of Man. A little more bland than Beachy Head but reasonably true to life in representation, location and colour.

Easily seen on the approach into EGNS whether you are flying IFR or VFR, though obviously you will see these items better in VFR flight, the next step is to make them flash on a continuous basis which I dont know how to do yet(dave) but similar to the tower lights(dave), think it would look good for the pilots(dave), wouldn't you agree Mick(dave).

In answer to your questions Mick, the main software is contained in the FSX CD and is called SDK. GMAX is used for the modelling and MS paint is used for the texture rendering. The good thing here is that it is all FREE.

I must say it is not until you try something like this that you realise the thousands and thousands of hours that must have gone into the creation of FSX or indeed our own Open Clouds. You push a button and it just works. We give no more thought to it than that!

I cannot in good consciousness claim credit for the models, there are hundreds available on the Internet, however, it is necessary to completely dissect these models nut by nut down to the bare wireframe work, resize, add and remove bits, tweak and completely apply new rendering or formats in a format that can be converted into a different formats that FSX can format. And if that appears to be written incorrectly, apologies, but it is more or less the sequence of events required to end up with something you can use! A complete metamorphism is required, like a caterpillar to a butterfly, enough of a complete rework that you can comfortably say the end product, all though similar looking to the starting canvas, is your own creation I would have thought!

It is interesting stuff, a new dimension to FSX and even given that the Techno Geeks write the tutorials in Martian rather than English it is still possible for aging relics like myself to grasp enough of the concept to give it a go. As long as you take a organised methodical approach it is more or less straightforward, however, the objective is to create a) something to look at whilst we fly and b) something to guide us on our way to our destination and not start a new hobby!

You should give it a go Mick then it truly would be "Micks Special Scenery" on landings!

On a broader note I am compiling Lighthouses and Windmill Farms around the UK as they are objects readily seen and recognizable but if anyone could think of other objects or landmarks that stick out like a sore thumb or that people would look at a say "Oh yes I know what that is or where that is" I would be gratefully appreciative.* Especially ones on the approach tracks*

Some more easily recognizable landmarks that can be seen quite readily from a long distance enabling you to get a location check on your flight.

Each location has also been included on the Plan-G obstacle database.

Scilly Isles

Different View

Isle of Man

Beachy Head

Isle of May

Ayre - even at a further distance still not lost!

South Stack

Start Point

These will be freely available soon on the web site as a self installing scenery pack.( Although a small donation via the donation button would be greatly appreciated. Helps Goffa pay the bills. Every little helps.)

I think this one fits the bill for sticking out like a sore thumb

or

makes it lot more interesting looking at an object true to life and in the right location.
