PARO, Bhutan - VQPR - freeware airport | |
Ian Whiteside 1st May 2012 12:16:40 | Paro airport in the kingdom of Bhutan in the Himalayas is classed by 'Boeing' as having one of the most dangerous and difficult approaches in the world.
Runway 15 approach requires a 5000' descent within a few miles and a 360 degree turn within a narrow valley that has 12500' - 18000' mountain peaks all around... then the pilot has to perform a difficult and dangerous 'S' turn on short finals to land... sometimes finally levelling the wings while crossing the threshold of the runway. I have tried to create the realism of this approach by taking the stock FSX airport and lowering it to published altitude and moving the runway to google earth position co-ordinates. As a bonus I've managed to find some airport buildings like the real ones at Paro which are in the traditional Bhutanese style to enhance the airport. This is a first attempt by me with FSX scenery and although pretty basic and not 'quality' it pretty much fulfills my objective of making the approach a bit more realistic... hope you enjoy. First , a little sample of a promo wideo in the making ... Here is the Paro airport download... this is basically a self installer/uninstaller but if you have a previous version, make sure the 'Paro' folder in FSXAddon Scenery folder has been deleted... Please ensure FSX is not running when installing or uninstalling Paro Airport, Bhutan - VQPR http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34685313/PARO%20Bhutan%20VQPR%20Package.zip Here's a chart for the approach... http://www.virtualiroma.it/eventi/DANG4/VQPR.pdf a Little news article... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2079836/The-Himalayan-airport-dangerous-pilots-qualified-land-there.html Here are some real videos of Paro and Drukair aircraft... This airport is open for improvement if you want... maybe make it an ongoing project ? Hope you enjoy... |

Ian Whiteside 2nd May 2012 12:43:04 | Some people are getting Anti Virus alerts - these are being erroneously caused by the Auto Installer being an .exe file ... therefore for those not wanting to use the auto installer , I have included the old fashioned copy and paste method...
2 Methods to install:- 1) Auto Installer with instructions - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34685313/PARO%20Bhutan%20VQPR%20Package.zip 2) Manual Install with instructions - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34685313/Paro%20Manual%20Install.zip |
