Hi all I've just started logging on to FSOpen. I'll be getting started in the next couple of days and have a couple of newbie q's.
Can you use Euroscope against the FSOpen servers? if not
Are there any enhancements that can be made to the FSX radar? I have the tower upgrade (very good)?
Is there a booking system or is it first come first served?
What 'exams will I have to pass as an ex military controller/ aircrew?

Thanks Speak to you soon hopefully

I think Euroscope is tied into Vatsim so probably no.

I'll be making a new version of the radar cab this month with a few more tweaks, what other features were you looking for?

Have a chat with any of the admins on here, no exams just need to suss out any users ability. So much easier then exams etc.

Cheers Dave. Glad to see FSOpen living up to the title. The things I would be looking for would be VORs/ Fixes around EGBB HON Maple Chase Ebony Grove TNT Etc.

Thanks

VORs, NDBs, Fixes are already in as standard although not in much detail.

Sids and stars are not, don't think its realistic to get them in.

Have a look at FScommander, you might find it useful.

I'll be on TeamSpeak later if you want to chat.

Hi Dave,

Regarding radar tweaks; you know when you need to highlight a track, for example, to rotate the label to reduce clutter? At the moment the only way I know how to do that is by selecting the appropriate callsign in the Session Info window. Is it possible to reverse that method (ie clicking directly on the track on the radar display and hence illuminating the detail in the session info window)?

Highlighting a track in this way would make the display more akin to a live system and make it much easier/quicker to manipulate labels as required.

I've no idea how complex a task that is to do but I'm guessing it's probably more than a "tweak" so feel free to ignore at your leisure.

Keep up the excellent work though mate.

Best regards,

M

No can do Mick. The radar map is actually the same control as the GPS. The radar tracks are not objected, they are just created by a custom draw routine. I can change the dots to diamonds and the colours by setting variables but can't respond to clicks.

I'm beginging to think I should just create my own radar screen within the flight strip software. Don't hold your breath on this one though lol.

Good suggestion Dave. New radar screen please.

If you could design it in such a way that it was possible to create custom sector files, I bet you'd find other people willing (I would be) to create files with SID/STAR tracks drawn, airspace boundaries, correct airport layouts etc (a bit like you can see in FS Commander)

And if you could run it outside of FSX, that would be great. You could actually control without running FSX at all - would decrease the machine resources required by a large amount I would think.

Hmm,

I have been thinking about it over the last week. I'd still need to connect to fsx to get the planes positions, but this could be from another pc. Alternatively I'd have to issue traffic info packets direct from the host and pick up remotely.

Biggest obstacle is picking up all the data required to plot on a radar. Airport layouts, sids/stars nav aids etc. When you start thinking about it its a huge amount of work. Job for next winter maybe.

Dave, Hi yes apologies for the above newbie comment re the VOR's etc, I hadn't actually logged on to FSX for a while so had forgotten what the FSX radar looked like.. The only 3 suggestions I would like to see are adding the Squawk to the Tag and adding a heading line. I.e which way the plane is pointing.. I don't know if either is possible.

On the other point of a new radar screen, is it possible to connect euroscope to FSX. It works the other way because you can use FSX to view from the tower using fsinn. I may have a play about and see if I can get it to work..

Cheers
Adie
