| Kicking... | |
Dale Boardman ![]() 15th Feb 2010 00:27:57 | Were all seeing a lot of kicking as of late and unfortunately a small minority of these people are part of our serious members.
I think we all need to take on board that mistakes can be made and that Admins don't get given the facility from management for a 'kick' or 'thrill'. It's a mistake - just one of those things (I know it's annoying) As Dave said on a previous post - if you do get kicked... then you need to spk to that person that kicked you directly on Teamspeak... It would make things so much easier instead of involving all the members on FSOpen. It's pointless posting messages on the forum if your not ready to get a response and deal with it instead of moaning about it. So going forward lets do what's easy - Just spk to the person that kicked you then move on - enjoy yourself... No point in holding grudges... Life's to short... Right enough of the speech lets get on with the flying :-p!! Regards, Dale. |

Fred Parkinson 15th Feb 2010 09:05:55 | Hi Dale,
I wouldnt normally respond on an open forum,as I did, but as you were one of the controllers who kicked me you will know that I did ask you why and accepted your mistake. I also asked the controller last night and got a less than satisfactory answer. The first time I was kicked I probably had done something against the rules, but because no one told me what I had done wrong I am none the wiser. I have over 18 months flight simming and admit mistakes can be made especially when logging on to a new network. My point is, before kicking if that person was confronted before being kicked he would be in a position to correct his error. Someone getting kicked without knowing why, is likely to leave and not come back or log on again and make the same mistake only to be kicked again. I know there are people who will enjoy making life difficult for others but if serious players keep getting kicked for nothing! then the trouble makers win. Yes I agree with you lets fly and enjoy!!! but it is difficult when you spend 30 minutes setting up a flight and an FMC only to be kicked before you even get on the runway. I am hoping this topic is laid to rest now and that we can all do what we want on FSOPEN and that is to enjoy our flying Westie |
Richard Stuchfield 15th Feb 2010 10:28:45 | Just a quick addition to this post (from a personal viewpoint).
All of the people that I kick fall into one of the following categories: 1. repeated failure to answer any ATC instructions or respond in any way to comms: 2. 'unauthorized' aircraft flying in the vicinity of my control area that are potentially intefering with aircraft that myself or another controller is controlling 3. abusive language on voice comms or in chat 4. spawning on a runway or blocking the main taxiway It's difficult to give someone a reason for being kicked if they are not listening to your comms so it's not always possible. If you spawn on a runway, also don't expect more than a quick warning (and none if there is a plane on final or taking off). You can log back in again and ask why after the event. I'm not saying that you did any of these Westie so apart from the above, it could have been a mistake (as mentioned in another post). I can't think of another reason at the moment as to why someone should be kicked; so as ATCO's, please try to be responsible with the privilleges granted to you otherwise you may find they are removed. Richard |
Fred Parkinson 15th Feb 2010 11:47:12 | Hi Richard,
You make a valid point about people not responding to comms. When I first logged on to FSOPEN I didnt realise how much teamspeak played its part in the system. I would usually open and set up my flight before connecting to teamspeak and I now see how this causes problems. Would it be possible to have a "GETTING STARTED PAGE" on the main website highlighting this sort of problem. I think this would cut down on the number of unanswered comms and spawning on the runways. Just a thought. westie |
Richard Stuchfield 15th Feb 2010 12:12:31 | We can look at that but I don't personally see it as a problem to set up before connecting to Teamspeak
I'd ask all ATCO's to not kick people for not answering comms when on stand. As Westie has said, pilots often sit on stand for a while as they set up their flightplan/FMC. Until they need to push/taxi, there is no requirement for them to be in communication with ATC. Only at the point they start moving without authorization are they in breach of this requirement |

Assuming that this thread has some ref to my recent post about being kicked on my second flight on the FSOpen server, I posted on FSOPEN because I am new here and simply wanted to know if I had made a mistake etc. I was not aware that the info re. who kicked you appeared at the time as you left the session and I thought I would double check on the forum. I moved over to fsopen because I was assured that you don't have to put up with young kids messing about in the session. As it turned out I got kicked by one on my second day using the server!! |
Richard Stuchfield 15th Feb 2010 20:26:03 | Rich.
It's not directly related to your post but there have been a couple of instances of people querying why they were kicked. Think it's pretty much sorted now. We're aware of the concerns people have raised and will monitor the situation. Richard |
Dale Boardman ![]() 15th Feb 2010 21:33:38 | Rich Boult - Just check your prev post and from that look like Harry kicked you not me... Hope you got it all sorted now :-) |
Rich Boult ![]() 15th Feb 2010 22:12:36 | LOL Dale, I know it wasnt you!! Didnt mean to imply that...
Anyhows, I have managed to stay in the server a few times now without the dreaded kick screen of death, so it's looking like it was a one off. Not the taste of things to come...! |
