Dave Wave ![]() 3rd Mar 2010 10:48:45 | Hi Tam,
To answer your questions. 1. We use the free flight lobby on gamespy as this creates the most visibility for the session and thus attracts new members. Existing members do not have to use gamespy, they can connect via direct connect and thus miss gamespy out altogether. Why not ask your friend to use direct connect? Secondly, every kick is logged on the server. I've gone back through the log and there is no record of nickmyster86 being kicked. Ever! I think this is the user losing connection and making an assumption that he's been kicked. Kicks for the last week are shown here http://www.fsopen.co.uk/info/kicked/ so always worth checking before accusing someone. It's there for a purpose, a) for information if you think you're a victim and b) to discourage anyone from being a bit power crazy and c) to allow managment to monitor people who might kick a little bit too eagerly. As far as being nice to new users, I think we are. The only exception is with young players who sound like they may be disruptive or lack the ability to listen in which case I make them jump through a few hoops to attain membership. |
Richard Stuchfield 3rd Mar 2010 10:57:34 | I kicked TAM3045 last night. Gamespy id 'cmt_cruz'
The reasons were: 1. no flight plan filed 2. Overflying the EGBB control zone while EGBB radar was active 3. Not being in Teamspeak (if they were, I would have asked them their intentions before making a decision on whether to kick) 4. Making no contact with either EGBB or EGCC radar who were both active while seemingly making an approach to EGCC. 5. EGCC radar had to vector a departing aircraft out of the way of TAM3045 With regard to your friend being new and wanting to learn. If they are not going to file a flight plan and be in teamspeak (ie. follow the rules of fsopen) then why are they flying in a session at all. They should be flying in FSX free flight. I'm quite happy for new and inexperienced people to fly in our sessions but if they are looking to learn, they need to be in Teampseak and interacting with us otherwise how can they learn. If they don't want help, fly in a session where you can do what you want where you want without messing the session up for others. Richard |
Tam Spiers 3rd Mar 2010 14:25:57 | thanks dave but i cant get in with ip and i dont think hes a victim and i was not accuising anybody i was in a session last week and atc were going to kick him i had to tell them he was new player new to teamspeak all i ask is give new players a chance |
Fatih Aydogduoglu ![]() 3rd Mar 2010 14:47:54 | If you can't get connected directly make sure your connection ports are 6112 and 6122 and try again. |
Dave Wave ![]() 3rd Mar 2010 14:59:42 | Tam, I know a number of people have said they can't connect directly.
If you are up for it can I take control of your PC remotely sometime and see if I can suss out why you can't connect directly. I thought ports 6112 - 6122 only needed to be open to host sessions. Obviously you need to get out on these ports but it is an outbound connection that you are strating, basically the same as connecting to a session via gamespy. I'll need to check this one out. |
Gavin Ward 3rd Mar 2010 17:52:17 | Tam: Ideally, new users need to sit in listening in a few teamspeak sessions before trying to fly.
I know it can be boring and frustrating but it provides a good lie-of-the-land that can help you understand what you need to do, what the rules are and without impacting on other people. Really as far as ATC goes FSOpen are one of the most newbie-friendly and willing to help. |
Richard Stuchfield 3rd Mar 2010 17:52:43 | Tam.
I think fsopen is very friendly and tolerant of new/inexperienced players. If he's your friend though, perhaps you can tell him that he needs to be in Teamspeak and file a flight plan before he flies. If he's in Teamspeak, at least he can ask for help and we can speak to him if we have a problem with something he's doing. If you can't help him out for whatever reason, tell him that he only needs to ask someone in Teamspeak and we'll be happy to help him get up and running. Richard |
