| Fix for direct connect | |
Dave Wave ![]() 6th Mar 2010 15:09:15 | OK, looked at this last night with one of our members who could never connect directly and had to go through gamespy.
Two things we changed. 1. On the first screen in fsx for multiplayer check that your port range is 6112 to 6122. While you are on this page check your connection time out is set to 90 and your keep alive is 15. Increasing the keep alive means you are more likely to disconnect before joining a game. 2. Check your firewall is letting ports 6112 to 6122 out. Most firewalls will let traffic out by default. Because you've opened up an external connection then you should then receive data back in on this connection from the server. For some reason microsoft firewall doesn't do this so you need to add Microsoft Flight Simulator to the list of exceptions. |

Tam Spiers 9th Mar 2010 15:26:42 | thanks dave but how do i check my firewall iv got internet security norton 2010 humberside.uk |
Dave Wave ![]() 9th Mar 2010 16:15:46 | Tam,
Check that you are not running windows firewall as well. I've seen users do this which can cause the problem. If you are using Norton firewall then windows firewall should be disabled but it can prompt users to turn it back on. If this isn't it and you're ok with it let me take control of you PC using this software. http://www.teamviewer.com/ We use it at work, but its free for non profit use (Which means us) I can then set your pc up for you. Grab me in teamspeak if you want to do this |

Ditch Nortons A big resource hog, sluggish and problematic. Personnally I use only AVG AV and Win Firewall, my router firewall takes care of the rest. Been running this for a number of years with no hassle on various Windowes OSs and FS versions, Teamviewer, Brilliant bit of software, love it |
Toby Matten 12th Mar 2010 23:49:22 | Another suggestion,
I found that Windows Firewall on Vista, even though turned off, was still blocking ports and programs (thanks MS). I have mine turned off but with fsx added to the allowed programs and also unchecked my "Advanced->Network Connections" boxes for my LAN card. HTH |
