| Level D 767 'APP' Question | |
David Sargant 22nd May 2010 12:04:05 | Hi all,
I recently bought the Level D 767. I think its superb. I am flying routes with the FMC and my SIDs & STARs are working great. ALthough I am having a few minor problems when it comes to engaging the LOC/APP. At what point on the STAR should I be engaging the Localiser and then the APP switch? In the past I have always engaged the APP switch when the localiser has come alive but that was when I was not flying a STAR. Thanks, Dave |

I engage the APP mode only when I am closing in on the localiser. The closing course shouldn't be too sharp maybe 30-40 degrees. You should also make sure that you are below the glideslope at this point. The autopilot should capture the localiser and turn to the runway heading, and then it arms the glideslope mode. As you interept the glideslope this should be captured too and the aircraft should descend on the ILS automatically. |
David Sargant 22nd May 2010 16:47:10 | Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the advice. It's what I thought but I find sometimes that the glideslope does not engage. Is FL20 too high for most g/s? I have most of the charts for the UK but I have trouble finding some some EU ones. |
Graeme Brown ![]() 22nd May 2010 18:33:52 | David,
By FL20 do you mean 2000ft or FL200, 20,000ft? 20,000ft is way too high. Normally the final turn onto the localiser would be at around 10miles out around 3,000 or 4000ft |
David Sargant 22nd May 2010 23:14:10 | Graeme, yes I meant 2000. I was reffering to the glide slope altitude?! |
