Gary Cooper 25th May 2010 12:37:48 | Hi please can you tell me whats wrong with my pc, when joining as session after a couple of minutes the computer just goes off and restarts itself, just upgraded to windows 7 and fitted new graphics card, could this be the cause. thanks as always for your help |
Dave Wave ![]() 25th May 2010 14:34:28 | Check the envent logs for any information on a device or driver failing etc.
If nothing found would suspect a hardware fault, try putting your old graphics card back and see if that fixes it. |
Andy Paton 25th May 2010 19:43:36 | hi Gary. As Dave says, looks like a hardware fault, here is a few questions.
1.what type are your graphics cards, old and new? 2.what is the wattage of your computer power supply?(PSU) 3.Does your power supply have a seperate graphics card supply? 4.how many power connections does your graphics card have? Regards Andy |
Gary Cooper 25th May 2010 22:29:26 | Thanks Dave and Andy, looked like a software problem, unistalled rex and level d 767 ,it has run for twenty five mins no problem , then taxing in manchester and just crashed, The new gaphics card is a nvidia, when buying the card i was told i have to upgrade my power supply, which i did, the card has no seperate power supply as not needed, as for how many connections the card has i have no idea, had it fitted at the shop. once again thanks for your help |
Jamie Armstrong 26th May 2010 17:14:23 | I have exactly the same problem! and we have some similarities in set-up... such as the fact both are G cards are Nvidea and ours both don't run on a direct power supply (either like for example a 6 pin power connector)and another thing is that we both run Rex, but as you said you removed it... i have tried one thing, i tried lowering a few settings and changing my over clock down a notch or two, and that cooled things down inside... and i haven't had this problem since! but then again i get it rarely and its at a completely random time... :(

when you install FSX, it generates a config file which contains details of your computer hardware(graphics card). The config directory can be found at C:Documents and settings, your name,Application Data,Microsoft,FSX(C: being where your FSX is installed).Open and Scroll down to find the line [DISPLAY.Device.Nvidia--your card--.0].If this line contains details of your old card, then FSX has not recognised your new card.It is possible to delete the existing config file(FSX closed),as a new default config file will be generated when you start FSX,but be aware as any addons will not be recognised by the new file.
