| ATIS...... Pilots and Dave :) | |
Christian Smith ![]() 25th May 2010 17:18:29 | Hello all!
Last night I was controlling at Stansted and because pilots cant tune in the active ATIS, Every 15 minutes I typed in the ATIS into the chat box, changed the information (e.g. ALPHA) and as the weather on the server is usually fixed there was never a real change so I was just able to copy and paste most of the time- anyway it was quite nice pilots contacting me and acknowleding the reciept of the info- and hopefully better for them as they knew the runway etc before me having to tell them.... ANYWAY TO THE POINT: I know that on the server FSX Comms are blocked, but now that the serer is private- and all pilots who join us have to come through Teamspeak- do you think we could unblock it so that the ATIS is tunable? I have no idea how the servers are run and I may think this is easier than it actually is- apologies for this :) Christian :) |

Christian Smith ![]() 25th May 2010 17:22:58 | I would say ideally record so we could add info for example at the end of my ATIS I put,
On inital contact advise reciept of information *, aircraft type, and if using NATS Charts. IFR Aircraft should state NSD in flight plan if unalbe to accept a SID. 90% of pilots contacted me saying: Good evening, **** with you, type 737-800 with Mike, Using Pilot assistant for the ground... Just to explain* some variances between pilot assitant and NATS hence why I needed to know :) |
Connor Diver 25th May 2010 17:48:05 | I can tune into the ATIS when in the server - thats how i tell pilots the weather when im on ATC. |
Dave Wave ![]() 25th May 2010 18:06:13 | Great idea but....
Enabling this takes more resource and bandwidth from the server. It also causes more issues with lag due to more packets being resent, particualaly when members with high latency connections are on line. The server is also more likely to crash with voice enabled, mainly for the above reasons. One day I'll drop the facility to create an atis into flight strips/pilot assistant. |
Christian Smith ![]() 25th May 2010 18:38:06 | I see I see! Im very unaware of such technicalities!
Would be great if you somehow come up with an FlightStrips ATIS :) Good luck Dave and THANKS :D *This is why I love FSopen |
Christian Smith ![]() 25th May 2010 18:42:57 | Connor, as ATC we can tune ATIS but the pilots cant. In real world pilots have the ability to tune in that frequency (which as you know is a weather loop created by the controller).
Rather than ourselves reading it, It looks like Dave is going to come up with a plan so we can type it in and then pilots can view it! In other words we dont have to continually broadcast the weather and aerodrome information. Then pilots can read it and tell us theyve got it :) Christian |
Steff Missot ![]() 25th May 2010 19:23:37 | I tried it and they CAN
You need to give them the ATIS freq and if they put it into com1 a green bar will appear in the top, the ATIS |
Connor Diver 25th May 2010 19:24:23 | Yer Steff your right - you can tune the ATIS on the server |
Steff Missot ![]() 25th May 2010 19:28:29 | What we CAN do,
put a ATIS freq under the controll frequencie on flightStrip |
James Monckton ![]() 25th May 2010 19:35:33 | ATIS is available to pilots, problem is all frequencys are wrong |
Christian Smith ![]() 25th May 2010 20:34:30 | Hmmm.. Not sure what the crack is, I've tried on numerous occasions putting in both the frequency on charts and the frequency given to me by the controller at an airport but to no avail |
| Stephen Dubbie 26th May 2010 12:05:30 | hey, the ATIS deff works,
i think the prob could be e.g EGBB ATIS 123.225 as we know the fsx radio only has 5 digits, eg 123.22, so pilots might make a mistake and tune the wrong freq because of the 5 at the end,, all it takes is 1 didgit to get it wrong, but as for the atis, for me it always works, |
